Description
A quiet morning walk on the beach brings the viewer to a place of serene beauty.
Otter Rock Beach on the Central Oregon Coast in the United States is a place of big rocks, soft sand, and a surf that is worth wading in, if you don’t mind your feet getting cold because the water is definitely not warm!
A misty fog hovers over the trees, promising sun later in the day but not quite now. Such is the climate at the Central Oregon Coast – it is warm one moment, as the sun shines down from the sky and a lack of breeze allows the beach hiker to fully feel the heat of the day. But then, minutes later, the sun goes behind a cloud, a mist rises up, and the breeze whispers past with a cold brush against one’s face. Then it’s time to bundle up in one’s jacket and continue to walk down the beach.
The most wonderful thing about Oregon beaches is that they are accessible, and though like any tourist area there are hotels and motels on the banks, along with scores of private and vacation homes, the beach itself is open to the wanderer, and there are numerous egresses on to the beach so that the beauty of the ocean is not limited to a small number of people who can afford a home there.
Once on the beach, the hiker can walk for hours and miles along the sandy coast, listening to the sound of the waves, and looking out into the vast water that stretches into the horizon. This, indeed, is a time of peace, beauty, and tranquility, and when one comes upon the beach at Otter Rock, it is time to scramble up from the beach onto the rocks, find a comfortable seat, and sit and stare out at the water.
