Rough and Ready is the third studio album from the British band Jeff Beck Group and the first of two by a new line-up of members that then included guitarist Jeff Beck, vocalist Bobby Tench, keyboard player Max Middleton, drummer Cozy Powell, and bassist Clive Chaman. It was released 25 October 1971 in the United Kingdom, and in February 1972 in the United States. Beck wrote more of the pieces than on any other album or ever would again. The album received mixed reviews but did finish 23rd in the annual critics poll by The Village Voice for the best “Pazz & Jop Album” of of 1971.

Jeff Beck is one of three well known guitarist who played with the Yardbirds, a British rock band formed in 1963. The other two were Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page. He has not established or maintained commercial success as many of his contemporaries but has played on albums by Rod Stuart, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Cyndi Lauper, ZZ Top, Roger Waters, Jon Bon Jovi, and Mick Jagger just to name a few. Know as a “guitarist’s guitarist” he is ranked #5 in Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarist of All Time”. He has received the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance” six times and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, then again as a solo artist in 2009.
