Tucked away in the lush, emerald embrace of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Soco Falls whispers its secrets to the wind. Cascading over 60 feet down moss-cloaked rocks, its waters dance and tumble, carving a path through the ancient forest. Soco may be an anglicized version of Sagwa'hi, the Cherokee name for the creek

A serene waterfall cascades over a curved cliff face surrounded by lush greenery and foliage. The water splashes into a small pool at the bottom, sending up a mist that catches the sunlight filtering through the trees. A wonderful place to visit, Looking Glass Falls, US-276, Brevard, North Carolina.

Thank you, Steve, for this feature as well as the others you have featured. This photograph was made in Salisbury in 2013. Sometimes I want to shoot more of a location when shooting trains. In this shot, I wanted to convey a timeless quality. You can almost pretend this photograph was made in 1943, not 2013.
